The Males Having The Values Of Tradition Have Higher Salary
The pinot noir grape has been cultivated perhaps since antiquity in Burgundy. And it is precisely this ancient and inherited winemaking knowledge that has contributed to its success.
It is generally believed that women in a disadvantageous position in the workplace and men and women also be different in pay and benefits. Normally, the salary level of the same position is higher of men than women. But the sex role has much more complex influence to salary. The latest phychology study shows that the male who has traditional concept own the higest level of salary. While the female who is more agree with the concept of gender equality, her payment will be higher than those holding traditional values, but the differences are less obvious than male's.
The study was published in the United States, "Applied Psychology" magazine; Dr. Timothy Judge who is from the University of Florida and other researchers analyzed the sample survey of 12,686 participants between men and women of the four interviews from 1979 to 2003. The researchers enquired participants' opinions toward the gender roles play in the family and the workplace. They needed to answer questions, like "what do you think of the status of women in family", "will women's stepping out of family lead to more juvenile delinquency", "should women stay in home if the men are very successful" and so on. At the same time, these informants also reported their income, faith in religion, level of education, marriage status as well as working experience.
With a series of related factors under control, the researchers found those holding traditional concept of sex role earn more 8500 dollars on average than those without such traditional concepts. As for this phenomenon, the researchers believe that today even in the promotion of gender equality environment, people who have traditional concepts also will try to maintain a balance between work and family. But for women, the result is opposite. The average salary for women with traditional concept is less $ 1500 than those with the concept the equality to men and women, while the difference is not so obvious. In other words, it can be expected to the salary for married couples holding traditional gender role attitudes is 7 times than that for those with a gender equlity. If a man who has traditional idea married a woman who has sexual equality idea would create the highest family income.
The results show that the concept of changing gender roles will affect the equity of payment, when the concept becomes more traditional; women suffered greater loss on payment, and when the concept becomes more equal, the difference in income between men and women will become smaller. At the same time the researcher also found that those whose parents were working outside of the respondents showed less traditional gender roles. While the married, people with religious belief would be more likely to have traditional values. The young men are rarely thinking about roles difference; however, more and more traditional ideas are coming to them when they are getting older and older. Many people now recognize that pay inequality is not simply an economic phenomenon. It hides an important psychological mechanism behind. The Government's public policy has been working hard on the goal of equal payment for men and women, but the concept of traditional gender roles exists in people's minds will be a long-term impact of reaching this goal.
